The R&D Engineer, Embedded Systems supports EBR’s implanted and external device platform by solving released product problems, bringing past work to current standards, improving reliability, and contributing to firmware and hardware execution. This role is designed for an early-career engineer who wants hands-on exposure across firmware, electronics, and product support in a regulated medical-device environment. Essential and Other Duties and Responsibilities: Product Support Engineering Investigate and resolve design related issues related to the embedded systems in our released product. Debug issues spanning firmware, electronics, and system interactions. Support root-cause analysis and contribute to corrective actions. Help update supporting documentation (drawings, test records, traceability) as changes are implemented. Firmware & Embedded Development Contribute to low-level firmware development under guidance from senior engineers. Assist with microcontroller bring-up, peripheral drivers, and basic communication interfaces. Support firmware verification activities and test execution. Hardware & Systems Exposure Support electrical engineering activities such as board bring-up and testing, signal or power investigations, and component-level troubleshooting. Assist with light mechanical or packaging tasks when relevant (e.g., fit, interfaces, assembly feedback). Learn how firmware, hardware, and mechanics interact as a system. Documentation & Quality Support Help maintain accurate, up-to-date technical documentation: test results, change support data, and design control documentation. Learn and follow medical-device quality practices appropriate to the role.
