The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Quartermaster Assistant to provide essential logistical, inventory, and equipment support services to ensure the effective and safe operation of the Department. This role is responsible for the acquisition, tracking, maintenance, distribution, and documentation of uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE), firefighting and EMS equipment, medical supplies, and other departmental resources. The Quartermaster Assistant works closely with internal personnel and external vendors to maintain compliance with NFPA standards, departmental guidelines, and operational readiness while upholding professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment in all interactions. The Quartermaster Assistant position is classified as a non-exempt, hourly position. Pay Rate : Quartermaster Assistant $28.98 per hour + .20 per year for longevity Hourly Education Pay: Associate’s Degree: $.58 Bachelor’s Degree: $.87 Master’s/Doctorate Degree: $1.15 Schedule : 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, with potential to remain on duty beyond scheduled hours, nights, and weekends may be expected.

  • Regulate, track, and control consumable and non-consumable inventory, including uniforms, PPE, medical supplies, station supplies, and cleaning supplies.
  • Research, evaluate, requisition, receive, store, deliver, and replenish department-issued goods and equipment.
  • Issue, maintain, and document bunker gear in accordance with NFPA 1851 professional cleaning, inspection, and documentation requirements.
  • Issue, order, maintain, and distribute department uniforms and apparel.
  • Track and document department-issued equipment, tools, gear, apparel, and uniforms, including warranty periods and service schedules.
  • Order, inventory, stock, and distribute items used by the Department.
  • Assist with recommendations for new equipment, gear, or changes to items being ordered.
  • Support the development and maintenance of specifications and bid lists for departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Assess, perform, and coordinate maintenance and minor repairs on department equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors for purchasing, testing, returning, and servicing equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with research and evaluation of equipment or gear under consideration for departmental use.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and orderly equipment and supply storage areas.
  • Assist with annual inventory audits and accounting of department-issued items.
  • Assist with the disposal of obsolete, outdated, or unusable equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare training documents and/or videos related to the proper use and care of equipment and gear.
  • Pick up and deliver equipment and supplies to vendors, fire stations, and administrative locations as needed.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Department Standard Operating Guidelines, policies, safety rules, and Chief’s Orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of general clerical and office practices, including basic workflow and record-keeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of data processing methods, information storage, and retrieval techniques.
  • Knowledge of acquisition, inventory, and supply procedures.
  • Familiarity with EMS and firefighting equipment, supplies, and terminology.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA guidelines related to suppression gear, tools, equipment, apparatus, and SCBA.
  • Experience in inventory management, logistics, warehouse operations or equipment support is preferred

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of NIMS courses: ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • Proficient in basic PC-based applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to use the internet and basic inventory management and ERP software.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and the public.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and determine repair or replacement needs.
  • Ability to perform basic equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, dollies, and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent walking, standing, lifting, carrying heavy objects, and traveling to multiple sites as required.
  • Annual Leave: 80 Hours Vacation /80 Hours Sick / 80 Hours Holiday Accrual increases every 2 or 3 years, depending on length of service

  • Insurance: Medical Currently through Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO HSA $5,000: The Department covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% of the family. The department makes a quarterly contribution towards the HSA account.
  • Dental and Vision Currently through Guardian The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% for family.
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability Currently through Guardian The Department pays 100% of the premium.
  • Life Insurance - $50,000 policy The Department pays 100% of the premium.
  • Supplemental Insurance: The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance. This is available for purchase by the employee. Additional Life insurance is available for purchase by the employee.
