About The Position

Reporting to the Plant Quality Manager, the 2nd shift Quality Supervisor will be responsible for managing the Metallurgical Laboratory, including metallurgical and cleanliness evaluations on internal and purchased components. They will oversee personnel, equipment maintenance, material/equipment purchasing, and the development of ISO TS 16949–compliant procedures, and will also provide direct supervision of the Dimensional Lab, coordinating incoming inspections, daily manufacturing inspections, PPAP layouts, gage calibration and repair, warranty return analysis, and all Quality System activities related to the Dimensional Lab.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree preferably in a technical field (related experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • 3+ years of related experience (i.e. metallurgical lab and/or dimensional lab experience)
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of SPC, blueprints, and gage use.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and the ability to quickly learn and use other software packages.
  • Experience in supervising UAW employees.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Quality Assurance methods.
  • Strong leadership abilities supported by sound decision making and effective people skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and instructions clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, make informed decisions, and build positive working relationships.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now, or in the future.
  • This position is required to do extensive walking through factory environment production areas.
  • Required to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb, kneel, pull, push, carry, twist, bend, forward reach and reach above shoulder level on an occasion.
  • Required to frequently sit, stoop and stand.
  • Required to use fine and gross motor skills, firm hand gripping and repetition to handle physical parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal range; includes the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Environmental exposures may include dust, fumes, odors, loud noises and chemicals.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel to customer and supplier locations out of state and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing daily operations of the Metallurgical (Met) and Dimensional (Dim) Labs, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and QAI requirements.
  • Setting work schedules for Lab Technicians and Lab Coordinators while ensuring policies, procedures, and standard work instructions are followed.
  • Monitoring workflow and prioritizing testing based on scheduling department needs, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
  • Maintaining and calibrating all laboratory equipment and coordinating gage calibration activities with Process Quality Engineers.
  • Leading problem-solving efforts within the labs and approve e-Time for Lab Coordinators and CATs for union employees.
  • Overseeing Incoming Inspection activities, ensuring accurate reporting and proper quarantine of nonconforming product per established procedures.
  • Managing PPAP-related activities, including layouts, capability studies, gage R&R, and other dimensional/statistical evaluations.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely SAP reporting, identify equipment needs, and drive continuous improvement and 5S initiatives within the labs.
