Job Overview The Quality Supervisor plays a key role in executing assigned Quality tasks. This includes serving as the primary support for Operations by overseeing Laboratory Technicians, maintaining advanced quality systems, driving continuous improvement and Good Lab Practices, cross-functional communication, and new hire training. Byrne Headquartered in LaFayette, Byrne is a Central New York-based dairy company with a legacy spanning over 90 years. Its operations include an extended shelf-life (ESL) and ultra-high temperature (UHT) pasteurization plant in DeWitt, as well as an ESL manufacturing facility in Cortlandville. Byrne also maintains warehouse facilities in Syracuse and East Syracuse, along with a dedicated ice cream center in Syracuse. As a recognized industry leader, Byrne continues to drive innovation at the forefront of dairy processing and product development.

Requirements

  • A minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required.
  • Basic Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Ag-tech science experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning and maintenance of the lab schedule to ensure uninterrupted Quality operations.
  • Assist Operations and Manufacturing Services in meeting company quality standards.
  • Perform analytical testing and assess product conformance to specifications.
  • Conduct equipment calibrations, troubleshooting, and repairs as needed.
  • Perform finished product weight and volumetric verifications.
  • Operate sterility testing and other lab equipment at a high level of proficiency; serve as primary trainer for new hires on lab equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and validation testing on all lab equipment.
  • Review products and determine eligibility for release in accordance with company policy.
  • Complete sensory analysis of finished products as required.
  • Perform gram stains and direct microbial counts; demonstrate in-depth understanding of dairy microbiology.
  • Conduct environmental swabbing, sample testing, and result reporting.
  • Set up documentation and sterile sampling for sample shipments using proper shipping methods.
  • Maintain compliance with SQF Certification, including drafting procedures and policies.
  • Apply and maintain 5S methodology in the work area.
  • Conduct investigative research on products or materials as assigned.
  • Support continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, a clean work area, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
