About The Position

Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Quality Control Manager to join our team in our Brighton, Michigan facility outside the Detroit metro area. He or She shall have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to develop and maintain working relationships with key Stakeholders, and the capacity to handle and prioritize multiple complex tasks. Under the guidance of a senior site professional, the successful candidate will lead the quality team, develop and maintain ISO9001, drive quality improvement activities, and support continuous improvement/Lean Six Sigma initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, preferably in Chemistry or related field
  • Quality Management: 3 years
  • 1-3 years of manufacturing plant experience
  • Sound problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing plant
  • Knowledge of paint & coatings chemistry &/or experience as a Co-op
  • Experience using SAP/S4 HANA
  • Experience with statistical software/applications for data analysis
  • Time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of Quality Engineers and Technicians, including, but not limited to everyday testing, quality inspections, audits, and process improvements.
  • ISO 9001 Oversight: Manage the ISO 9001 Quality Management System to ensure compliance, certification, and documentation.
  • Audits & Compliance: Lead internal and external ISO audits, address corrective actions, and maintain certifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Quality Control: Monitor quality metrics to ensure products meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • CAPA Process: Oversee corrective and preventive action processes, addressing root causes, and preventing recurrence.
  • Training & Development: Provide training on quality standards and best practices, promoting cross-functional collaboration. Engage with direct reports to document goals, helping them reach their career ladders.
  • Reporting: Develop annual quality goals and execute programs to accomplish these goals. Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of quality metrics, audits, and corrective actions. Collaborate with the supply chain and procurement teams to assess and improve supplier quality. Cease any process or product delivery due to non-conformance (safety/regulatory issue, customer requirements, etc.) using the SAP system. Manage the distressed and at-risk inventory process plus raw material approvals. Prepare and present comprehensive performance reports to senior executives, including KPIs, trend analysis, and long-term strategies to improve product quality.
