About The Position

The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all machined parts and assemblies produced by the company meet the company's quality standards. This includes inspecting the parts for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications, as well as for any defects or non-conformances. The Quality Inspector will also inspect incoming raw materials, products, and services for conformance to purchase orders (POs), engineering drawings, and specifications. The Quality Inspector will use a variety of inspection tools and equipment to perform their duties, such as calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and CMMs. They will also use their knowledge of technical drawings and GD&T to inspect the parts and assemblies. The Quality Inspector is a critical member of the quality team and plays a vital role in ensuring that the company's products meet the highest quality standards. They must be highly skilled and knowledgeable, and they must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Must qualify as a “U.S. Person” under 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 (ITAR). Verification required prior to employment.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 and AS9102 aerospace standards
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment (e.g. Calipers, Micrometers, Optical Comparators, etc.)
  • Must have a strong understanding of computer operation, trigonometry, and AQL Sampling methodologies
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to maintain quality of work as per company specifications
  • Ability to use Windows and MS-Office (Outlook, Excel, etc.)
  • Possess advanced knowledge of technical drawings (ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T)
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal)
  • Time management skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility to changing situations and new tasks
  • Availability to overtime as needed to support Operations
  • Independent problem-solving skills with minimal instruction
  • Professional demeanor and teamwork orientation.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent GED
  • 4+ years of hands-on inspection experience with precision machined parts in an aerospace, medical, or automotive manufacturing environment
  • Required to work to a dimensional tolerance as small as .0002"

Nice To Haves

  • CMM experience, Programming with PCDMIS is a plus
  • Ability to program Keyence optical comparator is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conducting Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) inspection to exacting tolerances, castings, forgings, machined parts, sheet metal parts and assemblies furnished by vendors or fabricated in-house.
  • Inspects machined parts for proper material, processes, completion of operations, workmanship and conformance to engineering approved sketches, drawings and specifications.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and specifications and perform mathematical computations.
  • Conducting visual inspections and utilize standard inspection devices such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gages, dial bore gages, optical comparator and thread gages.
  • Works with common geometric features used in blueprints and provide application knowledge of how to inspect for each (roundness, concentricity, flatness, runout, perpendicularity and parallelism)
  • Utilize advanced inspections equipment, including Keyence Optical Comparator
  • Create new programs for new parts and assemblies using the Keyence Optical comparator
  • Record data on production documents and ensure all documentation is accurate and complete
  • Performs first article inspections at the machine or assembly and provides and accept or reject decision.
  • Inspects functional gages, fixtures, molds, dies, tooling, etc., for conformance to drawings.
  • Prepare and maintain required inspection reports and records.
  • Inspect incoming raw materials, products, electronics, and services for conformance to purchase orders (POs), engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Identify and report any non-conformances to the appropriate personnel.
  • Work with Quality Engineers and Managers to resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Assist in the activities of other inspectors as directed.
  • Perform related work requiring equal or lesser skill.
  • Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Work with minimal supervision to the quality industry and department standards, while adhering to best safety practices.
  • Accomplish inspection-related tasks as directed by the Planner and Supervisors.
  • Documenting non-conformances in Discrepancy Reports (DRs).
  • Maintaining high quality standards with minimal discrepant work.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Quality Manager.
