About The Position

The Quality Inspector III performs mechanical inspection of parts, subassemblies, and finished goods to ensure conformance to specification using precision inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, plug gauges or videoscopes. Conducts advanced measurement inspections to support Product Development and Engineering functions. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years as a Mechanical Inspector, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Within Hunter Industries, minimum 6 months as a Quality Inspector II or equivalent.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to comprehend work instructions.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and demonstrate professional behavior.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform data entry, view electronic procedures, or complete training courses.
  • Ability to use either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles)
  • Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Knowledge of math and statistical techniques. Ability to accurately perform intermediate mathematical and statistical calculations and use a weight counting scale.
  • Knowledge of control charts and process capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and complete advanced inspections such as First Article inspections, GRR, capability studies, and shrink studies.
  • Basic knowledge of SPC file creation and troubleshooting of automated inspection routines.
  • Ability to lead and train other team members.

Nice To Haves

  • ASQ Certifications- CQT, CQA, or CMI preferred.
  • Knowledge of rules of AQL sampling and statistical process control preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects product samples and prepares them for laboratory analysis or testing.
  • Inspects and functionally tests materials, parts, subassemblies, finished goods and packaging for damage, defects, or shortages using quality inspection plans, gauges, and standards charts.
  • Records data of inspections for use with statistical analysis. Compares inspection results with specifications to ensure compliance of material.
  • Communicates with internal customers to exchange information regarding products, materials, and services to support improvements and root-cause analysis.
  • Rejects and isolates products not meeting quality specifications, notifies appropriate team members of discrepancies or shortages, and records non-conformances per internal processes.
  • Counts or estimates quantities of materials, parts, and products.
  • Compares product labels, tags, or tickets, shipping manifests, purchase orders, and bills of lading to verify accuracy of shipment contents, quality specifications, and weights.
  • Collects and prepares measurement or identification labels and attaches them to products.
  • Analyzes complex rejected and failed parts, sub-assemblies, and finished goods and communicates results with technicians, supervisor, and respective engineers. Offers recommendations for improvement.
  • Trains and mentor's other inspectors to perform essential job functions. Supports the validation of new production equipment.
  • Participates in selection of inspection equipment and techniques. Provides support in coordinating daily activities, work assignments, material requirements, and scheduling changes.
  • Participates in efforts to improve quality documentation focused on strengthening the overall quality management system.
  • May require ability to work other shifts and work overtime as determined by the supervisor.
