About The Position

RAM Aviation, Space & Defense is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, and actuators. Since 1975, we’ve supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. As one of Southern Utah’s largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From our advanced facility in St. George, we build the future of aerospace—on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here! We are looking for a Quality Inspection Intern who is ready to trade the classroom for the manufacturing floor. This isn't a "fetch coffee" internship. You will work alongside seasoned engineers and operators to analyze defects, improve processes, and ensure that when our parts leave St. George, they are ready for commercial flight or zero-gravity! What You Will Achieve Early-On: You will immerse yourself in our Quality Management System (QMS). You’ll learn how to read RAM Control Specifications, navigate AS9100 standards, and understand how a raw material becomes a flight-ready component. Mid-Point: You will be hands-on with the data. You will analyze non-conformance trends, assist in "Fishbone" (Root Cause) investigations, and support the quality team with recommendations for improvements. End of Internship: You will have gained significant knowledge and working experience that could contribute to a tangible Continuous Improvement (CI) project that you can proudly present in your final portfolio.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering degree program (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Aerospace preferred).
  • You look at a broken process and immediately want to fix it. You enjoy digging into the "root cause" rather than just treating symptoms.
  • You are comfortable talking to everyone from the Plant Manager to the CNC Operator. You can translate engineering jargon into plain English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel—you know your way around a pivot table or chart).
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, assembly, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with reading blueprints/technical drawings (GD&T)
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate non-conformances (defects).
  • Use Excel and statistical tools to track trends.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Board meetings and walk the floor to identify opportunities to reduce waste or variation.
  • Assist in updating work instructions and preparing graphs/data for our Quarterly Management Reviews.
