About The Position

This is a hybrid role, with onsite work averaging three days per week at Troy Hospital. While primarily based at Troy, this corporate position may require periodic travel to other Corewell Health East sites to collaborate on quality and patient safety initiatives. As a Senior Quality Improvement Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in reducing readmissions and strengthening patient safety by diving deep into data, uncovering trends, and translating findings into meaningful system and site-level improvements. Embedded within the sites and communities you serve, you’ll partner closely with clinicians and leaders—acting as the connective tissue between operations and quality—to identify gaps, lead improvement initiatives, and drive measurable, sustainable outcomes that truly make a difference for patients. Job Summary Drives projects throughout the organization including both clinical and non-clinical areas to accomplish measurable quality improvement. Work assignments are typically more complex involving multi-disciplinary teams. Analyzes and measures the effectiveness of existing processes and drives sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable quality improvement. Collects and analyzes process and/or quality data to initiate, develop, and influence operational practices and procedures that focus on enhanced quality outcomes. Facilitates large improvement projects in coordination with leaders and providers to drive continuous improvement. Flexible in adapting to changing priorities. Mentors colleagues in improvement science application across the organization. Drives strategic quality goal setting to influence strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Healthcare related field
  • 5 years of Quality improvement, performance improvement, project management or related field

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare related field
  • RN – State of Michigan
  • 2 years of Participation on improvement initiatives
  • CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list - Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), IHI Open School
  • CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list - Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), IHI Improvement Coach Program
  • CRT-Professional in Healthcare Quality, Certified (CPHQ) - NAHQ National Association for Healthcare Quality Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex, site-based quality improvement initiatives focused on readmissions, patient safety indicators, and publicly reported quality measures, translating data into actionable improvement strategies.
  • Conduct extensive chart review, data analysis, and dashboard review (Epic, Excel, and other Microsoft tools) to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate quality data, benchmarks, and trends to clinicians and leaders, supporting informed decision-making and measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted partner and liaison between clinical teams, operations, and system stakeholders—facilitating collaboration, influencing practice change, and navigating complex clinical conversations.
  • Apply improvement science methodologies to assess current processes, prioritize opportunities, and design sustainable, repeatable, and data-driven improvements.
  • Lead and facilitate multidisciplinary improvement projects, including defining goals, milestones, deliverables, and success metrics.
  • Research best practices and external benchmarks, including collaboration with other hospitals or organizations, to inform local and system-wide improvement efforts.
  • Support regulatory, accreditation, and publicly reported quality programs, including data collection, validation, and submission to external agencies.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues in quality improvement methods, fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Adapt to changing priorities while maintaining focus on strategic quality goals and organizational performance.
