About The Position

The primary purpose of the Quality Improvement Specialist position is to assist in the development and implementation of the University Hospital Quality Improvement Program.

Requirements

  • BSN Registered Nurse with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey required.
  • Four (4) years of experience in Quality Improvement in an acute care hospital setting required.
  • Candidates without the nursing degree who have an advanced degree in a health care related field, or Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration with three (3) years of experience in an acute care hospital, plus an additional four (4) years of experience related to quality improvement will be considered.
  • Must have experience with chart review and data abstraction. Computer literacy and data entry management experience required, along with strong analytical skills. Must be able to work independently and as a team member and possesses strong communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous ICU or Emergency Room (ER) experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sepsis identification, treatment protocols, and best practices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient‑centered service by creating a friendly, welcoming, safe environment, communicating clearly, resolving concerns promptly, organizing work to meet customer needs, maintaining professionalism, and supporting service excellence and customer service goals.
  • Assists the Director and clinical departments in identifying areas of review for the Quality Improvement Program and implementing the quality improvement process.
  • Uses electronic databases and internet resources to examine clinical data for trends, perform comparative assessments, conduct literature searches, and identify potential areas of review.
  • Performs data collection and exploratory studies through concurrent or retrospective chart reviews; organizes data in tables/graphs and supports clinicians in developing and evaluating improvement measures.
  • Designs data‑collection instruments, performs audits to ensure data reliability, maintains and updates the quality database, and prepares departmental/clinician profiles using internal and external benchmarking data.
  • Coordinates the peer review process, supports staff through education on quality monitoring, and assists in analyzing profiles using standard statistical techniques.
  • Complies with UH policies, the Joint Commission standards, and all relevant regulations; demonstrates understanding of internal/external customers; stays current with regulatory updates; and performs other related duties as assigned.
