About The Position

The Quality Improvement Specialist supports institutional compliance and continued accreditation of the animal care and use program (ACUP) by providing administrative and technical support to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and leading key post‑approval monitoring activities. The role conducts inspections of animal care and use locations, laboratory visits, and audits of protocols and training records; partners with research teams, ULAR veterinarians, ULAR Training, and other internal units to address issues and implement corrective action plans; and promotes a collegial, education‑focused approach to compliance. The Specialist educates research teams on IACUC policies and amendment requirements, develops and disseminates educational materials, assists labs in preparing for inspections and accreditation visits, supports protocol pre‑review to ensure high‑quality submissions, and helps maintain IACUC‑approved standard operating procedures and management plans for facilities and core services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of relevant experience, preferably with lab animal use in an academic or institutional setting.
  • Familiarity developing and preparing animal protocols and with applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-8 years of relevant experience, preferably with lab animal use in an academic or institutional setting.
  • Experience with and knowledge of IACUC processes and requirements.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles; AALAS, CMAR, or CPIA certification.
