About The Position

UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Improvement Analyst position in the Quality Improvement department. This is a full time position working Monday through Friday 40/hrs per week and will be a remote position. Must be located in the Eastern Standard Time Zone to be considered for the position! The Quality Improvement Analyst plays a meaningful role in supporting data-driven decisions that improves the experience, quality of care, health equity, and health outcomes of UPMC Health Plan members. You will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with both analysts and business stakeholders across the organization, helping to shape the direction of quality improvement efforts. You will create analytic products for one or more of the Health Plans quality improvement areas and partner with business owners to help shape its direction. To successfully perform the role, the Quality Improvement Analyst must be self-driven, curious, and able to effectively engage stakeholders throughout their data-driven decision-making process. In addition, this role will partner with Quality department teams to understand day to day workflows and optimize the tools and systems that support Quality activities and execution. Designs and builds lightweight applications, automations, and reporting using a combination of low code platforms (e.g., Power Apps, Power Automate), analytics tools (Power BI), and other appropriate technologies to improve visibility, efficiency, and reliability across Quality processes. Leverages enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake and applies technical data skills—including data modeling, basic transformations, and data quality validation—to ensure trusted insights. Maintains documentation, supports Quality end users, and continuously refines solutions based on performance metrics and user feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in data analytics, decision science, health economics, quantitative social sciences, statistics, computer science, business or a similar field.
  • Experience using SQL, Excel, SAS, R, or Python.
  • Ability to extract and manipulate data.
  • SQL is used as the primary language for data extraction and manipulation from our database systems.
  • If you do not have proficiency in SQL, you will be required to learn and gain proficiency upon hire.
  • Demonstrated success working with data discovery, analytics, visualization, and business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, R-Shiny, Excel, etc.
  • Very curious with strong problem-solving skills in the creation and interpretation of analysis.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new applications, processes, and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to influence non-technical audiences with analytical insights and data visualizations. And comfortability presenting to a variety of audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in particularly-relevant analytical methods or health care business domain (payer/provider) may reduce time-in-position requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise of assigned domain with the Quality Improvement Department to facilitate analysis (e.g., Provider Performance, Member Experience, Medicare Quality, Medicaid Quality, etc).
  • Understand business stakeholders? objectives, the metrics that are the most important to them, and how they measure their performance.
  • Develop metrics, reports, and/or dashboards to streamline reporting on critical business results and drive the impact of data-driven decisions.
  • Identify and analyze significant trends that affect the organization and their key drivers to optimize business decisions.
  • Produce customer-oriented reports that provide business context for the analysis and recommendations, while receiving regular supervision from the supervisor or analytics communications team.
  • Present solutions to stakeholders (non-technical audiences) and solicit constructive feedback.
  • Consistently demonstrate a strong customer orientation, producing analyses on-time and communicating results effectively.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and initiative in discovering errors in data or analyses, or determining the need for additional, follow-up analysis arising from the original assignment.
  • Independently prioritize and manages 3-to-5 analytics projects simultaneously, while receiving regular supervision.
  • Identify and learn applicable new techniques as needed.
  • Quality Improvement is a fluid, dynamic, fast-paced environment.
