About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Engineering Manager to join our team supporting Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). This position is based in York, PA. As a Quality Engineering Manager, you will be a people leader and will oversee a team of five to ten employees with the potential for up to forty. At BAE Systems, we take safety and quality seriously and our NDT department plays a vital role in fulfilling this quest. As a manager knowledgeable in the NDT Methods utilized by BAE Systems, you will liaise with stakeholders both internal and external. You will be tasked with being knowledgeable about the status of the certification, training, and continued development of Level II Inspector’s applicable written practice. You will delegate inspection priorities to Level II inspectors and will assist in Technical Performance Evaluations (TPEs) of Level II inspectors.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field and eight (8) years of progressive experience as a Manager in a high-rate manufacturing environment.
  • Must previously or currently possess NDT Level II certifications in RT, MT, PT, and VT at a minimum and/or the ability to acquire certification as a NDT Level III in RT, MT, PT, and VT IAW SNT-TC-1A, or the overall equivalent.
  • Experience in managing technical projects (e.g., new NDT approaches within a production environment).
  • Leadership experience supervising staff and managing a team.
  • Ability to provide NDT training to Level II inspectors and welders (both on-the-job and in a classroom setting) effectively.
  • Highly effective communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with nonconformance tracking and Cause/Corrective Action development.
  • Strong organizational and priority-setting skills.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings including related specifications and process documents.
  • Ability to interpret purchase order requirements and perform evaluations of submitted test reports and certifications.
  • Computer proficiency to include MS Office Suite and other industry-related software.
  • Able to support travel as needed.
  • Able to effectively give guidance, assistance, and training to customers, suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years or greater experience as a certified Level II in RT, MT, PT, and VT
  • Background or knowledge of UT methodology
  • Experience as an auditor
  • Experience in managing a 20-50 person multi certified NDT team.
