This Position reports to: Quality & Operations Excellence Manager As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities. The work model for the role is onsite in New Berlin, Wisconsin. Please note that no relocation assistance or stipend will be offered for this position. Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the office location. Candidates are expected to manage their own commuting arrangements.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's engineering degree program in the United States.
  • Intern must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Exhibit the capability to manage several tasks at once while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Collaborate with team members to convey ideas, share information, and provide updates on project progress.

Responsibilities

  • Drive site safety improvements through technology adoption, work cell redesign, ergonomic enhancements, and other innovative solutions.
  • Champion world-class quality by developing clear work instructions, conducting PFMEAs, establishing FAI/inspection criteria, implementing error-proofing (poke-yoke), and managing ECNs and CAPAs.
  • Increase operational capacity by identifying and executing projects that eliminate bottlenecks and ensure customer demand is met.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles, including time studies, assembly line balancing, value stream mapping, 3P for new production lines or changes, and continuous improvement in material flow, scheduling, and presentation.
  • Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, applying strong project management skills to assess risk, manage dependencies, and deliver results on time.
  • Serve as a change leader by collaborating with stakeholders, managing phase-in/phase-out transitions, ensuring successful implementation, and sustaining improvements through robust follow-through.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, build compelling financial business cases, and develop project plans to drive operational excellence.
