About The Position

Be a Quality Engineering Leader at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant (LGR). LGR is GM’s rear‑/all‑wheel‑drive luxury car plant in downtown Lansing, Michigan. The plant covers about 3.4 million sq ft on 111 acres. It includes body, paint, general assembly, a central utilities complex, and an integrated stamping plant. LGR is a core Cadillac performance and premium sedan hub for GM and has received significant investments over the last decade for new Cadillac sedans and the sixth‑gen Camaro. LGR currently produces the Cadillac CT4 and CT5, including V‑Series and Blackwing high‑performance variants, for global markets. The plant produces vehicles 10 hours a day, four days a week on One shift. GM has recently announced that LGR will build the next generation CT5 (A2-2). The GM Lansing Grand River Quality Engineering Team is looking for a talented and self-driven individual to fill the Lead Quality Engineer role in Vehicle General Assembly. Here, every day work is performed in a team dynamic embedded in a plant environment, where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. The Lead Quality Engineer will apply their expertise focused on Body and Exterior and will directly contribute to providing our customers with optimal satisfaction. As a Lead, the candidate will be responsible for leading people (other Quality Engineers). Provide coaching and technical leadership to a team of Quality Engineers. Developing Vehicle Program Quality Plans, which include all metrics of vehicle Global Customer Assessment (GCA), Direct Run Rate (DRR), and Warranty Voice-of-the-Customer (VOC) execution! The individual in this role will monitor progress in real time to meet quality goals through common global process execution, rapid containment of issues, installation of robust countermeasures, supplier visits, and 7-Diamond process to ensure Quality targets have actions and are on track. Develop quick containments with robust long-term solutions to different problems as they arise. Present the Assembly Plant and Engineering Staff with clear problem definition and technical guidance on complex problems. Support the launch of new products in the plant. A considerable amount of creativity and self-initiative is vital in this role, as well as a high level of independent discernment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Technology, or equivalent related experience leading engineers in a similar field
  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Ability to read drawings, understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and work with 3D Visualization Software
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Statistical Data Analysis
  • Strong critical thinking, independent judgement, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective communicator with solid oral and written presentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of how to effectively use White-Light 3D scanning systems and integration into 3D assessments
  • Familiarity with Plant Quality systems/applications including GDIS, GSIP and GEPICS
  • Familiarity with Engineering & Supplier Quality systems/applications including ECM, PRTS, SPPS, GQTS, TeamCenter and PAD’s
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Management including ECR’s, TCR’s and parts release processes
  • Knowledge of PPQP, APQP and PPAP requirements
  • Supplier audit experience
  • Red X Journeyman Certification (or higher) and/or DFSS Green Belt Certification (or higher
  • Previous experience as a Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, Design Engineer and/or Reliability Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Independent Judgement Respond to daily project requests and prioritize work
  • Managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from supervisor
  • Manage emerging issues on owned commodities
  • Develop quality standards and procedures
  • Review nonconforming parts and sub-assemblies for proper initial disposition and root cause
  • Analyze data to make educated decisions
  • Successfully manage multiple projects with broad scope and varying degrees of difficulty
  • Critical Thinking Lead root-cause analysis and develop and implement corrective action plans
  • Apply the Red X Methodology and other applicable tools
  • Present to Site Leaders with clear problem definition, technical guidance on complex problems, and regular updates on progress
  • Fix supplier quality and engineering issues impacting Global Customer Audit (GCA), Direct Run Rate (DRR), Warranty and Compass
  • Collaboration Work with production floor, product engineering, program teams, supplier-quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering to resolve issues
  • Assist production in preventing defects and recommend process improvements
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address SPPS’s (Supplier Practical Problem Solving) issued and ensure robust corrective action
  • Support Launch of new products in the plant when applicable.
  • Share Lessons Learned with Engineering to prevent repeat design or build issues
  • Coordinate periodic system and process audits at the plant and supplier facilities
  • Coordinate engineering change implementation and assist in running PTR’s (Production Trial Runs)
  • Support execution of all GMS (Global Manufacturing System) requirements
  • Visit supplier sites to ensure they are up to our standards or are putting in robust issue countermeasures
