Position Title: Lab Technician I Position Overview The Quality Control Lab Technician reports to the Facility Technical Manager and has primary responsibility for supporting the manufacturing process by performing quality testing on raw materials, bulk batches, and finished product. The role includes providing clear and timely communication to operators on test results, batch adjustments, and batch releases. The technician is also responsible for creating notifications and conducting initial investigations of non-conforming material.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED + 2 year Community college or equivalent AA degree in chemistry or biochemistry, a minimum of 1-3 years of demonstrated success as a lab technician I with H.B. Fuller
  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions
  • Written communication and math skills are necessary to perform duties
  • Ability to communicate well with all facility co-workers, and conduct quality committee meetings
  • Familiarity with disciplined process improvement tools
  • Solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Experience in a controlled lab environment

Responsibilities

  • Executes and adhere to all EHS requirement as well as maintains a safe work environment and follows internal safety rules and procedures including wearing proper PPE, as appropriate
  • Participates in the general housekeeping of plant and lab area
  • Complies with company policies and procedures
  • Performs timely and accurate chemical, physical, and visual testing on raw materials, bulk batches and finished goods using standard test procedures
  • Determines raw material adjustment amounts to bulk batches in order to meet specifications
  • Enters raw material, bulk batch, and finished goods test results in SAP
  • Performs timely Usage Decisions (accept/reject) for raw material, bulk batch, and finished goods in SAP
  • Collects and stores retain samples of raw materials, bulk batches, and finished products, as required
  • Takes immediate action on Internal Non-conformances (QN-Q3) by creating notifications in SAP and performing initial investigations with operators
  • Supports Customer Complaint (QN-Q1) investigations by reviewing batch records and retain samples
  • Maintains critical equipment and laboratory inventory supplies to support continuous uninterrupted QC lab support
  • Reviews daily production schedule and assures test equipment and reagents are prepared to efficiently test all scheduled batches
  • Provides proper documentation and visual QC labels for materials and products that are Acceptable, Rejected, or On-Hold
  • Issues, completes, maintains and processes all other relevant paperwork and records
  • Attends monthly meeting functions for Quality, Safety, Housekeeping and waste minimization
  • Communicates all critical issues and problems concerning QC test equipment and potential test delays to Management
  • Team player; volunteers to help where needed to get job done and enhance skills
  • Works with some direction and supervision of the Sr. Lab Technician, Lab Supervisor, or Facility Technical Manager
