About The Position

Monitors and controls Quality Control operations directly and through subordinate Supervisors and lead people. Oversees first and third shift Sanitation. Assists “Safe Quality Foods” (SQF) Practitioner. Must be a trained and certified PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual).

Requirements

  • Requires broad educational and technical knowledge, equivalent to Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in math and science (chemistry, microbiology, algebra, statistics, industrial process control, etc.). Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and trends required. Knowledge of personal computers and related software programs required. Must speak, read and write in English.
  • Must demonstrate aptitude to manage people, set example by own conduct and work habits, make prompt and competent decisions, use authority wisely and maintain discipline, morale and teamwork at high standard.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees Quality Control operations directly and through subordinate Supervisors and Lead People to assure that established standards are being met.
  • Assists in planning, monitoring and controlling research and development projects for new or existing products or processes.
  • Assists SQF Practitioner to develop, validate, verify and maintain the Food Safety and Quality Plan and prerequisite programs.
  • Serves as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) Coordinator.
  • Must be trained and certified as a PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual).
  • Ensures that all Food Safety and Quality Critical Control Points and Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulations are in compliance/met.
  • Provides technical assistance to production departments.
  • Reviews and summarizes information gathered by QC personnel and other sources when needed.
  • Reviews and discusses existing or potential quality problems with appropriate persons.
  • Completes weekly environmental equipment swabs and prepares SARF for outside laboratory analysis.
  • Performs walk-through inspection of production departments
  • Maintains quality control records as required by FDA.
  • Reviews process deviations with a process authority and documents corrective actions.
  • Conducts review and release of product from the SQF production hold.
  • Reviews copacker production records and QC testing.
  • Maintains Kosher certification program.
  • Reviews needs and orders Quality Control supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Prepares for and attends QI meeting weekly. Reviews customer complains and initiates corrective actions when needed.
  • Updates formula book as needed. Adjusts formulas so that "out of spec" product can be packed to proper specifications.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for red carded merchandise that does not meet product specifications.
  • Performs periodic inspections of warehouses for signs of potential quality problems.
  • Meets with supplier's representatives.
  • Contacts and meets with glass supplier’s technical representatives to discuss existing or potential problems.
  • Approves and writes work requests.
  • In the event of this employee’s absence, supervisory duties related to food safety and food quality will be assumed by the Vice President - Technical Services. First Shift Quality Control Supervisor will assume the supervisory duties of SQF Practitioner in the absence of this employee.
  • Maintains areas of operation in a safe and sanitary manner. Makes effective use of and makes recommendations on physical assets. Determines that established safety rules, Company policy and good housekeeping are followed.
  • Supervises first and third shift Sanitation. Assures that all buildings, offices, warehouses, production areas, etc. are clean, sanitary, and essentially free of insect and rodent infestation. Keeps complete and accurate files on all areas of cleaning for the FDA and NCDA. Checks periodically to assure that insect and rodent control chemical records are kept accurately and completely. Enforces all sanitation rules.
  • Conducts special projects and testing as directed.
  • May operate own or company vehicle in performance of some job tasks.
  • Ensures proper selection, training, evaluation, and discipline of and communication with employees.
  • Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.
  • Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
