Quality Control Intern - Blood Typing Solutions

Grifols Diagnostic Solutions in San Diego is seeking a QC Intern for the summer for the Blood Typing Solutions area. The QC BTS Intern will work primarily with the Quality Control department to gain an understanding of method validation, feasibility studies, data analysis and documentation. The intern will work within the QC department to gain an understanding of compliance, design change controls, and quality control procedures. To succeed in this role, we are seeking individuals who recently finished (<6 months) with an undergraduate degree or degree near completion in any applicable Quality related field along with a minimum of 2+ years university experience.

- Minimum of 2+ years university experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites
- Strong ability to demonstrate time management, organization and prioritizing tasks
- Ability to work independently on multiple simultaneous projects and be flexible to changing priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic computer skills
Nice To Haves
- Technical writing skills are a plus
- Basic knowledge of GMP/QSR requirements is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Train in and establish proficiency in Quality Control laboratory procedures utilized by the Blood Typing Solutions QC team.
- Performs accessioning, testing, and accurate documentation of reagent and biological sample results for daily QC operations using Grifols manual and automated blood typing gel systems, including the DG Reader Net, Erytra, and Eflexis platforms.
- Perform freezing of Red Blood Cells to create and maintain an inventory of frozen samples.
- Learn about manufacturing Red Blood Cell Solutions from frozen stocks, plan and execute stability studies to establish QC guidelines for expiration dating.
- Plan a feasibility study, execute it, interpret data and plan next steps
- Present project and study updates to QC leadership, including experimental status, data interpretation, and next steps.
- Assist and train on creating and reviewing quality control procedures.
- Attend meetings as needed.
- Provide a presentation at the end of the internship, including work performed, knowledge gained, and recommendations for future internships.
- Work with Quality Assurance – Compliance to gain an understanding of:
- Change control processes
- Site compliance requirements
- Applicable regulations and standards (ISO 13485, MDSAP, IVDR)
- Deliver a final internship presentation summarizing work performed, knowledge gained, and recommendations for future internship programs.
