About The Position

Long Prairie Packing Company LLC, an American Foods Group Company, has an opportunity for a Quality Assurance Technician. As our Quality Assurance Technician, you will: Calibrate equipment. Collect samples for testing. Accurately prepare and process daily paperwork in an organized manner. Perform visual line and finished product inspections to ensure conformance to specifications. Place tags to hold or reject product, materials, or equipment (i.e. thermometer, pressure gauge or dial) to gather, measure, analyze, and record inspection data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, and quantities inspected or graded. Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, investigate and take corrective action, make recommendations on preventative measures, and document findings. Conduct pre-operational inspection of production areas. Prepare and process daily paperwork. Provide guidance and train lower-level employees on QA processes and standards. Provide assistance to QA manager to help employees obtain missing core skills. Conduct Critical Control Point tasks and observe sanitary dressing procedures. Ensure compliance with government guidelines. NOTE: this description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of work temperatures warm, hot, humid, cold, wet or with slippery surfaces at varied heights in and around moving equipment and parts with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to perform the job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to work extended scheduled hours Monday through Saturday with daily overtime. Must be able to work overtime as required. Start times and hours vary based on production needs.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English (speak, read, and write) - must be able to communicate with Government personnel and other designated personnel, read specifications/labels, SOPs, SSOPs and HACCP, and be able to complete necessary written documentation).
  • 1-3 years Quality Assurance experience.
  • Must be able to successfully complete training: Safety. Safe Quality Food (SQF). Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP). Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Food defense. First aid. Lock out/Tag out.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior quality assurance experience in a USDA inspected beef, pork, or poultry facility.
  • Prior production experience.
  • Work history in the last 12 months.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish (speak, read, and write).
  • Degree in Agricultural Science, Biology or Meat Related Science degree or equivalent experience.
  • Prior lead or management experience.
  • Hands-on knowledge, training and/or experience in Basic Microbiology, Basic Chemistry, Sanitation, and HACCP.
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, and Access), Visio, and AS400).
