Schedule Monday-Friday, 5:45am - 4:30pm Actual working hours will be dependent on assigned department. Saturday and occasional holiday hours may be required. Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in food safety, preferred
  • Working knowledge of HACCP/SSOP/GMP/GFSI/laboratory methods
  • Attention to detail and strong desire for high-quality/safe products
  • Proficient with technology and the Microsoft Office Suite such as Word and Excel, preferred
  • Ability to complete basic math operations
  • Perform responsibilities with limited supervision and be able to make critical decisions based on observations
  • Verbally communicate professionally and respectfully with a cross-functional team
  • Accurately record data and maintain records
  • Ability to work in a facility that processes hogs; be comfortable working with and/or around blood
  • Willingness to work additional hours or perform work in other areas of the facility, as requested
  • Must be 18 years of age or older for insurance purposes
  • Consistently and repetitively perform hand and/or wrist movements
  • Consistently lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds
  • Consistently pull and/or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Consistently bend at the knees and/or waist in potentially awkward positions
  • Consistently turn and/or twist
  • Frequently climb ladders or steps up to 10 feet; frequently perform duties on an elevated surface
  • Stand up to 70-80% of the workday
  • Ability to work in an environment with extreme cold, wet/slippery conditions, and/or loud noise levels

Responsibilities

  • Complete weekly rotations into various departments to oversee quality assurance
  • Perform routine pre-operational inspections of facility, equipment, and raw materials
  • Inspect product for safety/quality and communicate effectively with team members if deficiencies are identified; apply product hold if product does not meet requirements
  • Collect various samples, create and observe petri dishes, and/or prepare samples for outside testing
  • Understand and verify that company SOPs are being followed; develop or update company procedures, as needed
  • Complete paperwork of monitored areas and input data into Excel or other software programs, as needed
  • Communicate with maintenance regarding any necessary building/equipment repairs that affect the safety and quality of product
  • Assist in ensuring high-quality animal welfare practices
  • Assist in audits, as requested
  • Maintain regular and predictable on-site attendance
  • Situations may arise that require employees to temporarily or permanently assume responsibility for tasks not specifically outlined in this job description. Employees may be requested to work additional hours and/or accommodate a heavier than normal workload.
