About The Position

Assist the physician with intra-op procedure functions. Responsible for maintaining and management of the equipment. Assists with patient care. Provides limited pre and post-procedure patient care/clinical tasks under the supervision of a RN or LPN. Occasionally performing clerical functions as requested.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Certified NA or Certified Medical Assistant. (Previous experience preferred)
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints and value working in a team-oriented, patient-centric culture.
  • Be confident in clinical decision-making and autonomous in providing care to patients in a fast-paced clinical practice setting.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be proactive in discussing case management.
  • Possess excellent time management and have ability to work well with patients and their families, collaborating/supervising physicians, facility staff and leadership.
  • Display a professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families, maintaining strict confidentiality in all times.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of team commitment, which includes meeting deadlines, punctuality and excellent follow-through and feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers daily in procedures.
  • Assist with preparing patients in pre-op and collecting data and vital signs prior to and after the procedure.
  • Assist with patient services as directed by a nurse including patient education.
  • Assists in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Performs surgical scrub duties, sponge, instrument, and needle counts according to department policy and procedure.
  • Ensures the scope is hooked up and functioning adequately.
  • Monitors and maintains sterility of surgical field according to departmental policy.
  • Assists with all aspects of room turnover, including cleaning rooms between cases with correct aseptic technique and instrument/equipment processing.
  • Assists with positioning of the patient according to departmental policy.
  • Assist with handling specimens: obtaining, labeling, transporting and verifying.
  • Escort patients according to policy when discharged.
  • Clean and disinfect according to protocol. Prepare accessory equipment for sterilization.
  • Document the disinfection process of all equipment in logbook.
  • Complete and document infection control and quality control measures in the logbook as required.
  • Assist with restocking of equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with the quality improvement activities related to equipment and environment.
  • Prepare laundry and hazardous waste for pick up by vendor.
  • Perform messenger and transport duties as requested.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Refer situations beyond ability or function to the appropriate person.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in in-service programs to maintain or improve knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to changes in daily schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of the patient.
  • Other duties assigned by the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, Operations Manager.
