About The Position

The QA/QC Technician performs quality assurance and quality control audits within data center environments, focusing on telecom and structured cabling installations. This role verifies that all equipment and cabling are installed correctly, tested, dressed properly, and functioning as designed, while maintaining strict adherence to industry, manufacturer, and internal standards. The position requires a detail-oriented, self-starting professional who can think like an auditor, clearly document findings, and collaborate with project teams to drive continuous improvement in quality and compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in structured cabling.
  • Strong understanding of telecom and data center cabling concepts, including copper (CAT5/6) and fiber optic cabling.
  • Knowledge of industry and manufacturer standards and proper installation practices for cable infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control principles and processes.
  • Ability to think like an auditor rather than an installer, with a strong focus on verification, compliance, and risk identification.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to recognize what a correct, standards-compliant installation looks like.
  • Experience with QA/QC auditing and inspection activities, including use of checklists and documentation of findings.
  • Clear documentation and reporting skills, with the ability to record issues and prepare structured inspection reports.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills suitable for job sites and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Self-starting, independent work style with the ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to different work sites as needed.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in data center environments and with data center standards.
  • Knowledge of BICSI standards, OEM specifications, data center standards, and TIA standards related to structured cabling.
  • Experience with pre-terminated cables, rack dressing, and rack layout standards.
  • Exposure to telecom work, CAT5/6 installations, fiber termination, or similar low-voltage environments.
  • Learning Management System experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of adult learning concepts, enabling effective participation in training and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Agility and willingness to take on different projects or learn new areas within quality and technology integration.
  • Public speaking skills and comfort presenting findings or training content to groups.
  • Experience with documentation processes and corrective action plans in a technical or quality-focused setting.
  • Backgrnd in technical support, fiber optic cable, or outside plant (OSP) environments is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily QA/QC inspections and observations at assigned data center sites, focusing on telecom and structured cabling installations.
  • Audit telecom equipment, copper and fiber cabling, rack layouts, and cable dressing to verify that installations meet design, quality, and performance requirements.
  • Use established QA/QC checklists to document findings, including non-conformities, potential risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate, organized records of all inspection activities, findings, test results, and follow-up actions.
  • Detect deviations from quality standards and promptly report them to the QA/QC leadership, site supervisors, and other relevant personnel.
  • Collaborate with management to recommend corrective and preventive actions that enhance quality standards, minimize risks, and improve efficiency.
  • Assist, when applicable, in training employees on quality standards, best practices, and compliance expectations.
  • Stay current with industry, manufacturing, and internal standards, as well as applicable local, state, and national codes, to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Think critically and analytically during audits to identify risks, non-conformities, and underlying causes of quality issues.
  • Prepare clear, professional documentation and reports that summarize audit results, issues identified, and recommended actions.
  • Communicate findings clearly and professionally with on-site personnel, project teams, and leadership.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills by supporting internal and external stakeholders before, during, and after engagements.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and grow in the QA/QC discipline.
  • Travel to various sites as needed to support quality inspections and audits.
  • Support installation work on an as-needed basis if quality audit workload temporarily slows, in order to help the broader team.
