About The Position

Quality Control Managers (QCM) are responsible for developing, managing, and performing the quality control responsibilities for projects to ensure they are constructed in accordance with the established minimum standards. The QCM role includes direct oversight and review for documentation and physical inspection of the project work and working with other in-house personnel (e.g., Project Managers, Superintendents, etc.) and external personnel to produce and document a quality finished product. The QCM provides quality control support, leadership, training, oversight, and technical expertise on assigned projects and is responsible for the overall quality performance of the division. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent – required
  • Proficient with QA/QC best management practices, processes, and systems - required
  • Strong working knowledge of civil, mechanical, and electrical work.
  • Dependable and self-motivated, strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, set goals, and accomplish responsibilities with limited supervision
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional organization skills, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and consistent follow-through skills
  • Ability to use computers, iPhone/iPad, and other office equipment; must be proficient in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary for business needs
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, including overnight stays as required
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Assist in the selection and hiring of related staff.
  • Trains and evaluates employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product.
  • Addresses performance issues and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 30 lbs. of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly
  • Work involves standing, sitting, climbing, kneeling, and crouching to a significant degree
  • Work may be performed at project sites and in an office and/or trailer locations
  • Work may be performed outdoors in weather conditions ranging from below-freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions, and in rural areas. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust, and dirt may occur.
  • The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
  • Work to be conducted at both project sites includes walking and hiking between locations with varying degrees of difficulty, sometimes including steep slopes and uneven terrain to access audit locations

Nice To Haves

  • College-level associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field – preferred
  • Related professional credentials (i.e., Construction Quality Management certification) - preferred
  • Proficient with PG&E Electric Distribution and Transmission QA/QC closeout processes, standards, and specifications – preferred
  • Experience working in construction is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Visiting material manufacturing sites to ensure the products are made per plans and specifications.
  • Ensuring material is tracked and stored properly.
  • Responsible for the overall quality performance of the division.
  • Support customer satisfaction and verification of data
  • Track, monitor, and report on KPIs to key stakeholders
  • Manage and conduct QC training and qualifications of quality personnel, field construction staff, and craft, including new hires and current employees
  • Provide training and oversight of QC support personnel and other direct reports
  • Develop and manage internal QC processes, systems, plans, manuals, and reference documents with input from key stakeholders
  • Manage and document QC change control, including specifications and standards updates with client and internal stakeholders
  • Verify and document that all materials received for the project are in conformance with the approved submittal, are handled and stored appropriately, and are acceptable for use in the project
  • Conduct job site QC inspections and as-built documentation audits
  • Document final inspections, acceptance of the works, and various phases thereof
  • Perform Quality Nonconformance Investigations and maintain corrective/preventative actions (CAPA)
  • Reads, interprets, and implements UCCo, Client, and Industry Quality policies and procedures and the client’s standards manual(s) and can communicate these to field personnel
  • Must be able to work efficiently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and possess strong time management skills
  • Support Quality Control processes for research, development, and implementation of emerging standards, materials, and installation processes
  • Meet with client personnel to address all aspects of the quality program and performance
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned
