About The Position

The Omni Ft. Lauderdale Hotel is a 29-story hotel, located at 1950 Eisenhower Blvd, and connected directly to the Broward County Convention. The property offers 801 guest rooms and suites, multiple restaurants, a vibrant rooftop bar, a sprawling pool, spa, and fitness center. The hotel has over 120,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, including a grand ballroom, junior ballroom, 25 breakout rooms and pre-function meeting space with waterfront views. JOB PURPOSE: To provide for the acquisition of food, beverage, and general purchases at maximum economic value based on business activity. The Purchasing Manager serves as a key liaison between internal departments and supplier representatives, ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services. This role is also responsible for delivering the highest level of support to internal departments, enabling them to operate efficiently and effectively in achieving their daily objectives and overall goals.

Requirements

  • Two years of relevant Purchasing/Storeroom experience, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language required, must be able to communicate with guests and staff professionally and with empathy.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, while maintaining a calm and welcoming demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and provide guest follow up in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to delegate, effectively train and coach a team with diverse talents.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information, data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Must have highly developed customer service skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Maintain a professional business appearance, attitude, and performance.
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, and holidays.
  • Move, bend, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Stand, walk or sit for an extended period or for an entire work shift.
  • Requires repetitive motion, including utilizing telephone/computer for an extended period or for an entire shift.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the Purchasing/Storeroom staff through delegation of work tasks to achieve set objectives.
  • Attend Food and Beverage related meetings such as BEO and Resume.
  • Maintain close communications with Culinary and Banquet Departments on requirements for future menu events to evaluate menus against Par Inventories in determining necessary requirements for outlets and banquet functions.
  • Establish and maintain training tools for subordinates to achieve a better knowledge and understanding of the Purchasing process and applications such as product familiarity, receiving and storage standards.
  • Actively participate and lead monthly inventories.
  • Coordinate with vendors to set up site visits of their facilities to aid key personnel in Purchasing and Storerooms as a training tool to improve basic knowledge of commodities used.
  • Coordinate weekly wine, liquor, and beer purchases, ensuring compliance with state liquor laws. Establish and maintain requisition procedures for alcoholic beverages that guarantee maximum control over inventories.
  • Work daily with Accounts Payable to ensure Birchstreet is accurate and up to date.
  • Evaluate vendor performance in compliance with Purchasing bid procedures.
  • Monitors vendor ability to provide timely and consistent quality according to established specifications.
  • Maintain close communications with Corporate Purchasing offices for placement and follow-up on quarterly and annual order requirements.
  • Receive parcels from couriers, keeping an accurate count of packages received prior to signing delivery receipt.
  • Create a log of the packages received into the hotel’s computer system database.
  • Distribute notes in Opera to guest rooms
  • Prepare daily inventory
  • Track and sort deliveries of parcels for guests and hotel departments.
  • Process packages through in-house receiving software, printing receipts for each package and processing the paperwork through accounts payable.
  • Responsible for keeping “undelivered” packages organized in storage container until delivery is made.
  • Attend area hotel and restaurant shows and seminars to establish new vendor relations and learn of new products and ways to improve present operation.
  • Interact with other departments to ensure that guest needs are satisfied.
