About The Position

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for competitive sourcing and procurement of ferrous and nonferrous products and processing services, as required. Primary responsibilities include the sourcing and purchase of carbon and aluminum flat rolled products as required.

Requirements

  • 4 years’ experience in a purchasing position or supply chain management.
  • Proven proficiency in the use of a personal computer included Microsoft Excel with pivot table experience.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Contract Language experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar ERP system
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats, demonstrated capability to develop strong interpersonal working relationships and work in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work on a team and individually, with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to develop and/or maintain supplier relationships.
  • Availability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate spot market availability and/or pricing on non-contractual inventory purchases, quarterly/annual firm pricing “deals”, long term supply “contract” agreements with producing mill suppliers and outside processing services.
  • Submit RFQs/RFPs to suppliers for spot, deal, and contract pricing.
  • Analyze/compare RFQ quote responses for capability/quality requirements, delivery requirements competitive pricing and approved supplier status.
  • Develop total costs of master coil or finished goods in support to Commercial Sales
  • Monitor inventory stock levels, in conjunction with Business Unit Lead, District Managers/Commercial Sales, to maximize inventory turns and execute strategic purchases based on customer forecast, consumption, market conditions/trends and mill lead times.
  • Work with Material Planners, District Managers and Producing Mills on expediting requirements of master coil/finished goods.
  • Negotiate freight rates with suppliers and coordinate material pickups, with Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Riverdale facilities as required.
  • Monitor and prepare analysis of market pricing, consumption, spot transactional pricing using various metal indices/quotes.
  • Analyze both domestic and global market conditions, economic factors, raw material inputs (of ferrous and nonferrous metals) manufacturing processes and related factors that impact metals pricing. This includes market condition reporting to management.
  • Monitor and reports supplier KPI’s and scorecards addressing deficiencies as required.
  • Visit customer and supplier facilities in support of continuous improvement efforts or performance deficiencies.
  • Manage Outside Processing and Cycle Count personnel.
  • Assist, as requested, with activities involving the research and/or adjustment of inventory/processing transactions identified as incorrect or erroneous.
  • Coordinate continuous improvement of product quality and operational changes/procedures between internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
