About The Position

Huston Electric, a full-service electrical contractor serving customers throughout Indiana since 1939, is seeking a Purchasing Administrative Assistant at our Lafayette location. This individual must possess a strong work ethic and strong communication skills. We offer a competitive hourly wage of $18–$20/hour (based on experience) plus a comprehensive benefits package including: Paid vacation Paid company holidays 401(k) with company match Pension plan Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance This is a full-time, in-office role based in Lafayette with hours 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (1-hour lunch). In this role, you’ll support purchasing and project teams to ensure materials, documentation, and communication flow efficiently across projects of all sizes. Responsibilities include: Assisting with purchasing materials and tracking orders for projects Supporting project kickoff and buyout processes as needed Preparing submittals, purchase orders, and procurement documentation Tracking long-lead materials and coordinating deliveries Managing subcontract documentation Maintaining purchasing systems, cost data, and records accurately Collaborating with project managers, field teams, and vendors to support successful project completion Communicating priorities clearly to internal stakeholders Assisting with shipping logistics and scheduling deliveries Participating in vendor trainings, industry events, and networking activities Performing administrative and data-entry tasks with accuracy and efficiency Supporting additional operational or administrative duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Prior purchasing experience preferred, especially in construction or related industries
  • Familiarity with electrical materials or willingness to learn quickly
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail and time-management skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
