The Punch Press Operator will perform duties to set up punch press or laser punch/cutter to cut, contour, or bevel specified metal sheets to defined specifications, and set and operate a range of metal fabrication equipment to cut, notch, and shape metal parts, working within the limits of standard or accepted practice.

Responsibilities

  • Operate punch & laser working from job packets, job-specific cut sheet, bend list, material usage list, blueprints, quality checklist or drawings
  • Perform machine startup, determine die clearance for gauge of material
  • Change die tooling as needed
  • Select specific job and pack list, send from Network drive location to controller on punch
  • Read blank, check clamp settings (make adjustments as needed), place sheet metal in clamps (adjust as needed), set X-gauge block, zero metal into clamps and against X-gauge
  • Engage clamp, put X-gauge block down, hit start button
  • Once part is punched, remove sheet and separate parts
  • Perform machine startup and shutdown procedures on punch & fiber laser cutting equipment
  • Position work piece onto table or into fixture with crane, using vacuum system to hold piece in place
  • Layout cuts on computer and select lenses according to thickness and type of metal
  • Interpret job information to determine specific material requirements
  • Layout operations to maximize material utilization
  • Label completed parts with appropriate part number
  • Remove chips and drop from parts and staging table
  • Determine sequence of operation for each process and edit program based on sequence
  • Rack and move pieces to staging area
  • Verify conformance of first piece to specifications, using calipers, angles, square, ruler, gauges, and measuring tape
  • Gauge work pieces randomly through run to ensure maintenance of settings and make adjustments as necessary
  • Adhere to Munters Quality System
  • Perform quality checks, complete check lists, verify counts, record time per job and ensure compliance with production schedules
  • Submit production documentation as required
  • Stage completed parts for movement or move to subsequent operations to maintain work flow
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Take responsibility for the physical inventory of materials
  • Request material reorders as necessary
