About The Position

Operate construction equipment for routine maintenance and reconstruction tasks on county gravel roads in the Rockport area. This position will report directly to Rockport.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two years of heavy or light equipment operation including motor grader experience.
  • Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire.
  • Ability to be MSHA certified.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one situations with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date.
  • Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
  • This position will participate in random substance use screening.
  • Candidate must pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position.

  • Advanced level of Gravel Road maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Must be proficient in the operation of a motor grader and have a good working knowledge of a wide variety of heavy equipment used in gravel road maintenance and snow removal.
  • Operate heavy and light construction or road maintenance equipment.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of gravel road maintenance procedures.
  • Must be able to perform work without direction or immediate supervision and follow detailed instruction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task.
  • Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally through radio.
  • When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude.
  • Must have basic computer skills and the ability to report/record data as per departmental requirements.
  • Ability to write, read and comprehend single instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Must be able to organize and schedule own work.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public.
  • Must be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events.
  • Incumbent may have some lead worker responsibilities, including written reporting/recording data as required.
  • Assist with snow and other inclement weather operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
