If you’re ready to make an impact, lead with purpose, and take the next step in your career, we encourage you to apply!” Under general supervision, to oversee the Heavy Equipment Repair Shop operations in the Public Works Agency; and to perform related work as required. The Public Works Fleet Supervisor is the first-line supervisor responsible for coordinating, prioritizing, and scheduling the repair and preventive maintenance activities of the Heavy Equipment Repair Shop. This position reports to and is distinguished from the Public Works Fleet Manager in that the latter class has overall responsibility for the Agency’s fleet coordination and repair. This class is also distinguished from the next lower class of Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic in that the latter class is a lead worker involved in assigning and reviewing work whereas the former class is the first-line supervisor of the Heavy Equipment repair Shop.

Requirements

  • The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)
  • The equivalent of two years’ full-time experience in the class of Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or higher-level class specializing in the repair and utilization of heavy vehicles in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)
  • The equivalent of three years’ full-time journey-level experience in the maintenance of heavy vehicular equipment for a public agency, construction firm, or similar setting, one year of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Possession of a valid California Class A Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of: Planning, scheduling, and supervision of repair activities.
  • Knowledge of: Methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Knowledge of: Hydraulic and compressed air brake controls, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials, clutch assemblies, generators, ignition and other electrical systems, fuel and water pumps, and all functioning parts of modern heavy equipment and vehicles; methods of efficiently operating a modern repair shop.
  • Knowledge of: Shop and equipment safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of: Supervisory techniques.
  • Knowledge of: Maintenance of a variety of records both manual and automated.
  • Abilities: Make decisions.
  • Abilities: Analyze and problem solve.
  • Abilities: Plan and organize workflow.
  • Abilities: Communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Abilities: Utilize techniques of supervision.

  • Abilities: Operate a standard office computer to enter data, retrieve data, utilize spreadsheet and other applications.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating, prioritizing, and scheduling the repair and preventive maintenance activities of the Heavy Equipment Repair Shop.
  • Overseeing the Heavy Equipment Repair Shop operations in the Public Works Agency
