About The Position

Tooele City is located 30 minutes southwest of Salt Lake City. We are known for our view of the Great Salt Lake, the beautiful Oquirrh Mountains, and as a hub for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. While we are still considered rural, both residential and commercial development continues and we are on the verge of moving from a 3rd to 2nd class community. Our population is estimated at 41,000. As the Director, you will serve as a key member of the Mayor's executive leadership team, ensuring that daily operations meet community needs, support future growth, uphold safety standards, and align with the City's strategic goals and assets. You will oversee a team of employees through several experienced division supervisors and will be responsible for developing, proposing, and managing both general and enterprise fund budgets. Your primary areas of oversight will include fleet maintenance and the mechanic shop, streets and transportation, water, and water reclamation. In this role, you will collaborate closely with internal staff and regulatory agencies to effectively support and advance the City's operational and strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, public administration, or a related field
  • 5–7 years of experience in construction, public works management, executive leadership, or a related field
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience with budgeting, financial management, and project oversight
  • Strong communication, strategic planning, listening, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Utah State Driver License and maintain a driving record that meets Tooele City risk management and insurance standards; must also be able to respond to call-outs and other emergency needs
  • Licenses and certifications expected to be obtained within 2 years of hire: Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) Utah Water Distribution Restricted - Level 4 Wastewater Treatment Restricted - Level 4 Wastewater Collections Restricted - Level 4 Confined Space, CPR/First Aid, and other required safety certifications
