About The Position
The City of Lawrence, KS is seeking to fill the position of Transit Planning Intern. This position is a part-time position (30 hours maximum per week) through December 31, 2025. The Transit Planning Intern will assist Lawrence Transit staff with a variety of duties that will involve GIS mapping work, conducting public outreach and/or travel training, performing monthly ride checks on bus routes, assisting with customer service at Central Station, assisting with meeting setup and preparation, formatting documents, reviewing and editing content, writing sections of reports, gathering and organizing data, participating in meetings, interacting with other local and state government officials, and experiencing a wide range of activities performed by Lawrence Transit staff. The intern will assist in the evaluation of the planning, operations, and evaluation of public transit services and bus stop amenities. This kind of work benefits from a person who has the ability to think analytically, visually, and spatially; and it requires an affinity for attention to detail as well as excellent computer skills including competence with mapping and/or design software. This position is designed to develop the leadership and technical skills of the intern while providing the City with highly capable staff support.
