About The Position

The Public Safety Patrol Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all college property and community members, both on campus and on other College property. Duties include patrolling the campus on foot and in college-owned vehicles; responding to emergencies and determining the appropriate course of action; responding to calls for service, conducting investigations, and writing reports; monitoring campus buildings, including fire alarm, system trouble alarm, and security video systems; providing security escort and unlock services for students and employees as requested; providing emergency first aid and/or requesting other medical services as needed; attending special events and sporting events; and enforcing parking regulations. Officers must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays over three (3) shifts per day.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree preferred, but will consider years of relative experience in lieu of preferred degree.
  • Required: Act 120 Municipal Police Officer Training, or its equivalent, such as the Pennsylvania State Police Basic Cadet Training Program.
  • Required: Sworn as a Private Police Officer under Pennsylvania Title 22, Section 501, Detectives and Private Police Act.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license, and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
  • Must be organized and demonstrate the ability to perform tasks and maintain composure during stressful situations.
  • Must have the ability to work well with a diverse group of colleagues and groups.
  • High level of customer relations and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, ever changing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred to have previous law enforcement, military, or security training, with knowledge of crime prevention techniques in a college or university environment
  • Preferred to have prior supervisory experience, particularly in the law enforcement field, as officers may be called on to work alone and make decisions, when appropriate

Responsibilities

  • Patrol college-owned or leased property conducting building locks/unlocks, enforcing parking regulations, responding to fire alarms, and responding to calls for service; Complete appropriate reports.
  • Enforce Pennsylvania state and local laws as well as college rules, regulations and policies.
  • Conduct criminal and traffic investigations on college property and complete the appropriate reports;
  • Testify at local and Commonwealth court as well as at college conduct proceedings.
  • Assist members of the college community and guests in whatever manner possible in Public Safety related matters;
  • Actively participate in community engagement.
  • Attend special events and sporting events; Assist with traffic control and crowd control as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, or supervisor, including but not limited to performing communication dispatch functions and administrative duties.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents in a timely manner; determine the appropriate course of action and notify supervisory personnel, law enforcement personnel, or other members of the campus community as appropriate.
  • Provide students and college employees escort services as requested; Transport and escort sick or injured students and employees to and from local hospitals when necessary
