About The Position

We are seeking a Public Safety Officer, sometimes referred to as a Hospital Security Officer or Healthcare Security Officer. The Public Safety Officer will perform a range of security duties including electronic surveillance and routine manual patrols to ensure the safety of the facility. The Public Safety Officer will coordinate responses to incidents involving patients, staff, and visitors while enforcing policies and procedures fairly and consistently. The Public Safety Officer will collaborate with the Environment of Care Committee to support a multidisciplinary approach to safety and security at our hospital. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Two Years experience in healthcare security supervision work or related field
  • Reserve Deputy / Police Officer experience. Can be substituted for experience with the Department of Corrections, Military Law Enforcement, or healthcare security management
  • State Drivers license upon hire
  • Current DMV H6 report or Driving History Report

Responsibilities

  • You will be scheduled for a minimum of 4 shifts per month with 2 of those being on the weekend.
  • Access Control and Patrols: monitor entrances, exits, and restricted areas; conduct regular interior and exterior patrols to deter theft, violence, or unsafe behavior
  • Emergency Response: respond to emergency codes and assist with crowd control, evacuation, or containment as needed
  • De-escalation and Conflict Management: intervene in disruptive situations using de-escalation techniques to calm agitated patients or visitors, often in collaboration with clinical staff
  • Patient and Visitor Assistance: escort patients or visitors safely through the facility, provide directions, and assist with lost-and-found or personal property issues
  • Incident Documentation: write detailed reports on incidents, accidents, or safety hazards and report findings to supervisors or risk management
