About The Position

Incumbent functions as a Public Safety Dispatcher in the University of the District of Columbia Public Safety & Emergency Management (PSEM), Emergency Communications Center (ECC). Incumbent is responsible for assisting with providing Public Safety Situational Awareness Management (Incident and Event), and Data Collaboration. Incumbent must be flexible due to the nature and schedule of the Public Safety Operation (essential personnel; 24/7/365).

Requirements

  • High School diploma and a minimum of 3 years of working in a Public Safety Emergency Communications Center or Security Operations Center is required.
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of application, provide proof of age with application materials and be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Security Officer Status through MPD/SOMB and DCRA.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in the Public Safety field monitoring a large CCTV network and a familiarity with camera operations and video retrieval.
  • The ability to operate access control systems, run reports, activates or deactivates card access, and produce access or identity credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with monitoring, responding to and broadcasting calls for service via two-way radio (or via other communication systems currently in use).
  • Learns how to document related activities in the Computer Aided Dispatch System.
  • Assists with interpreting and providing relevant and timely information to Police Officers in the field to improve law enforcement officer’s situational awareness.
  • Assists with broadcasting messages through the university’s mobile safety communications system and the emergency management secure portal.
  • Assists with detecting, analyzing, and alerting Supervisory Staff regarding any adverse conditions which may affect the normal operations of the university system (inclusive of extreme weather conditions, crime, terror, technical failures, etc.).
  • Assists with investigating alarm conditions and dispatching field units accordingly.
  • Assists with preparing incident and investigative reports using the Report Management System.
  • Assists with investigations using the Integrated Security Management System (ISMS).
  • Assists with collecting criminal intelligence information from a variety of sources such as previous investigations, outside public safety agencies, legal instruments, information storage and retrieval systems and social media.
  • Provides public assistance serving the university community and constituents to include students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the general public.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to assisting with the Emergency Communication functions if needed or required
