The Public Safety Communications Officer performs a full range of emergency and non-emergency functions in a 24-hour operations center servicing multiple facilities. Monitors public safety technologies and building operational systems. Receives and prioritizes incoming calls for service and dispatches the appropriate personnel. Documents all activity and information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner. Provides a safe and secure environment, which is conducive to good health care.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent education.
  • Clear Communication Skills Both Written and Verbal
  • Knowledge Of Basic Computer Programs
  • Able To Keep Confidential Information Regarding Patients, Team Members
  • Able To Withstand Crisis Situations
  • Has Skills to Provides Customer Service to Patients, Team Members and Visitors

Nice To Haves

  • Prior dispatching, emergency communications or campus/healthcare public safety experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes all emergency and non-emergency incoming calls for service and dispatches the appropriate personnel for assistance in a clear and timely manner per department policy and guidelines.
  • Transmits information by telephone, radio and overhead emergency announcements in a clear and concise manner.
  • Monitors and operates the security CCTV system for suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, along with other public safety related functions.
  • Monitors, operates and responds to the various public safety technologies in the operations center.
  • Monitors and responds per protocol to fire alarm system.
  • Assist with testing of the fire alarm system as required.
  • Monitors and responds to facility operational systems and notifies the appropriate personnel.
  • Documents all public safety and operations center activity.
  • Prepares reports and other documentation in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and methods and the ability to verbally de-escalate hostile situations.
  • Assists patients, visitors and staff by providing information along with other public safety related assistance.
  • Participates in training and certification sessions; maintains all necessary certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
