About The Position

The Public Relations Specialist will assist with the creation and dissemination of a variety of communications, messages, and materials to external and internal audiences, preparing and coordinating materials. The position effectively communicates and promotes UEC’s driving awareness and optimizing best practices for community outreach and building brand presence.

  • Education: Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; additional related experience may be substituted for education.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of communications experience. Higher education may be substituted for experience. Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks are required.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and calculate basic energy rates.
  • Advanced basic computer job skills including the ability to access, review, update and export data within enterprise systems, such as Customer Information System. Knowledge of Office products to create presentations, enter and export spreadsheet data, generate graphs and download forms.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to analyze reports and data for trends and energy usage communications.
  • A valid Drivers’ License is required for occasional business travel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with creating content to communicate, promote, and educate internal and external audiences utilizing appropriate platforms.
  • Assist in developing content that supports the identification, development and coordination of community outreach programs and campaigns to increase community partnerships and exposure.
  • Supports UEC’s brand presence by writing and developing content for programs, services, events, activities, and other platforms involving the Cooperative.
  • Participates in planning and conducting Cooperative events on and off-site, such as the Annual Member Meeting, Member Appreciation Week, rate meetings, and other public events.
  • Assist to collaboratively create, develop, and maintain the creative vision for UEC using and not limited to photography and videography.
  • Assist with planning and executing events and programs such as outreach to schools, workplaces, fairs, festivals, and other community events, including presenting on electrical safety, energy efficiency, utility careers, and other energy topics.
  • Develops and prepares promotional materials for distribution.
  • Work across functions and departments, assist with managing multiple concurrent projects and adhere to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provide professionally edited content free of spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Proactively develop content ideas to be included in all areas of communication.
  • Maintains files, contact lists, calendars, and documentation as needed.
  • Provides administration and analysis support to Supervisor and Manager as requested.
  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Effectively collaborates with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation in the workplace.
  • Conducts themselves in a manner that reflects well on UEC and contributes to harmonious relations with Members and the public.
  • Works outside of normal business hours during community events and other activities as assigned.
  • Respectfully takes direction from Supervisor.
