About The Position

The organization operates two campuses: a 1,200-seat proscenium theatre and 269-seat black box in Fayetteville, and an 11,000-capacity outdoor Amphitheatre (Walmart AMP) in Rogers, AR. The Public Relations Intern will provide public relations support to the Public Relations Team and the larger Communications Department.

Requirements

  • Must have reliable mode of transportation to attend community events and shows
  • Must be available to work 15-20 hours/week
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and work independently
  • Maintain an energetic, positive, professional attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects at one time
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of AP Style and editing
  • Comfortable with consistently adhering to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to interact with many different types of people
  • An on-going desire to learn and improve
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Candidates should be juniors, seniors or recent graduates in advertising/public relations, journalism, or communications
  • Must have a working cell phone and be willing to install basic applications and be willing to use it for work purposes

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the public relations associate manager on all aspects of publicizing the organization
  • Writing press releases for Walton Arts Center and the Walmart AMP
  • Writing curtain speeches, blog posts and magazine columns
  • Attending and working shows or events
  • Community outreach coordination and staffing
  • Maintain professional working relationships with teammates, fellow staff members from other departments, vendors, patrons, and tenants of leased spaces
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain security and safety requirements as defined by operations guidelines
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Benefits

  • While this is not a paid internship, Walton Arts Center offers a $800 stipend for the semester upon meeting 150 hour requirement, unless their respective college program requires otherwise
