About The Position

Independently works with the Criminal Investigations Division and the State Fire Marshal’s Office to collect content and to publicize accomplishments of the divisions. Works with the Press Secretary and the Communications Director to coordinate announcements and events regarding first responders. Works with Regional managers to make connections with local fire departments and to coordinate events for the Chief Financial Officer. Drafts responses to media regarding the Criminal Investigations Division and the State Fire Marshal’s Office and actively work with members of the media to highlight accomplishments. Monitors social media related to agency law enforcement and firefighters across the state. Provides administrative support for the Communications Office on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Must be able to make daytrips across the state on a regular basis.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have the ability to set up speaking engagements
  • prepare or coordinate preparation of slides/graphics for presentations
  • develop public events
  • compose and make speeches to various organizations
  • review and resolve complaints
  • review, interpret and analyze consumer complaints
  • use the Internet as a research tool
  • communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • provide information to others
  • work in a team environment
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office and Outlook, database and email.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of experience working at a state agency, in the communications field or with law enforcement is preferred.
  • A postsecondary degree from an accredited college or university, in political science or communications, may be used as an alternative for years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Previous experience working at a state agency, in the communications field or with law enforcement.
