About The Position

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Public Health Program Specialist 2. Under direction, this role monitors and provides leadership on the development and implementation of assigned HIV Prevention surveillance-based services (SBS). This includes providing HIV Prevention SBS, and information regarding Re-engaging into HIV Care, and partner transmission risk, to grantees, health care and social service providers, HIV planners, and other community members. The specialist also provides technical assistance regarding SBS unmet needs and represents the Department and the Section at public information venues such as HIV awareness events. This position is located in Chicago, IL. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is tasked with the oversight of communities within Illinois to achieve and maintain optimal health and safety. With an annual budget of over $1.8 Billion in state and federal funds, 6 regional offices, 3 laboratories and over 1,400 employees, IDPH is equipped to fulfill its mission of protecting the health and wellness of the people of Illinois through the prevention, health promotion, regulation and control of disease and injury.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with courses in health education, physical and biological sciences.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a health education or investigation program in the public or private sector.
  • Ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Appropriate, valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience working in a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) or HIV prevention program.
  • One (1) year of experience working with protected health information.
  • One (1) year of experience with college coursework in public health, human sexuality, or behavioral health.
  • One (1) year of professional experience working with databases written in Microsoft Access.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and provides leadership on the development and implementation of assigned HIV Prevention surveillance-based services (SBS).
  • Reviews and assesses data from the contractor’s quarterly report and service data records.
  • Provides direct technical assistance regarding HIV Prevention SBS, Re-engaging into HIV Care, and partner transmission risk to grantees, health care and social providers, HIV planners, and other community members.
  • Assists in developing protocols for service delivery and documentation for surveillance-based services and travels to conduct quality assurance site visits with grantees.
  • Conducts HIV Prevention presentations and represents the Program at community events, and travels for community events when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
