The Public Health Intern position within the Minneapolis Health Department's Workforce Management division offers students hands-on experience in public health. The role aims to diversify the public health workforce, provide early exposure to the field, and create pathways to employment for aspiring public health professionals. Interns will support their assigned division while gaining valuable skills and networking opportunities.

  • Collaborate with supervisor to complete assigned projects and tasks, ensuring quality and timeliness.
  • Participate in regular check-ins with supervisor to discuss progress, challenges, and goals.
  • Attend scheduled division and department meetings to stay informed and contribute to team initiatives.
  • Engage in training sessions and discussions on public health topics to enhance knowledge and awareness.
  • Develop and refine technical skills in tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Attend all in-person events, including site visits and other related activities, as needed for the role.
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university, or graduate program; or must be a recent graduate with a degree conferred between February 2024 and January 2025.
  • Must be able to commit to a part-time schedule of at least 6 hours per week for a duration of 20 weeks.
  • Demonstrates an interest and openness to learn new subject matter in public health and other related fields.
