Public Health Nurse III
About The Position
The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader serving 1.2 million residents from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Functions as a subject matter expert, responsible for communicable disease investigation and control in Fairfax County. Participates and/or manages in communicable disease outbreaks on a 24/7 basis. Provides direct services to individuals and/or community groups in order to enhance service delivery and reduce the incidence of communicable diseases in Fairfax County (district wide). Participates in multi-disciplinary work groups, such as hospital infection control, emergency preparedness and outbreak response. Conducts targeted outreach to reduce incidence of disease in high-risk individuals and/or groups. This position includes a signing bonus for new merit county employees in the amount of $10,000 (full-time).
Requirements
- Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Plus three years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education, including two years in a public health/community health setting
- Plus at least one year experience in a public health/community health specialty area or supervisory responsibilities
- Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Valid driver's license
- AED (Required within 60 days of hire)
- CPR (Required within 60 days of hire)
- The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background investigation, a Child Protective Services (CPS) check, a driving record check, and a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A Tuberculosis (TB) screening upon hire.
- This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
