About The Position

The primary care nurse provides comprehensive healthcare services to patients of all ages in an outpatient or clinic setting. The role encompasses conducting patient assessment, administering medication, observing patient progress and responding to changes, assisting with immunizations and minor clinical procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school obtaining RN or BSN.
  • Experience in a pediatric or family medicine outpatient clinic, public health setting, urgent care setting or hospital experience required.
  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid NC driver's license.
  • General knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health
  • Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare
  • Knowledge of available resources and organizations
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Must be able to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships
  • Accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports and medical instructions
  • Must complete the Introduction to Public Health Credential course within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine patient assessments, including taking vital signs, completing medical history, assessing condition, medication education
  • Assist with telephone and walk-in triage of patients with questions and concerns, providing information when necessary
  • Order labs, diagnostic tests, clinical tests per provider order
  • Complete task workflows in the patient EHR including medication refills
  • Administer medications, vaccinations and treatments per provider order
  • Patient chart preparation
  • Manage public health programs (will manage PHN II program by 3 months of employment)
