About The Position

The Pima County Health Department is looking for a motivated and curious professional to join our team as a Public Health Data/Informatics Analyst I - Overdose Data Insights Analyst. In this role, you’ll help drive data-informed decision-making within the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) Component C initiative by using informatics and statistical tools to analyze, model, and visualize public health data. Your work will help uncover trends, patterns, and predictive signals in overdose-related data—insights that directly inform prevention strategies and community health efforts. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated team of epidemiologists, informaticists, and business intelligence analysts to ensure findings are meaningful, accurate, and shared through clear reports and dashboards. T his is an in-office position located in Tucson, AZ, and cannot be remote. The Pima County Health Department is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in public health, health education, computer science, computer engineering, management information systems (MIS), epidemiology, biostatistics or bioinformatics or a closely related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment and one year of data informatics experience.
  • OR: Two years of experience with Pima County performing duties related to data informatics and analysis.
  • Valid driver license is at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with/knowledge of using Snowflake, SQL, R, Qlik, or ArcGIS.
  • Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, health informatics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with/knowledge of conducting statistical modeling and interpreting results in a public health context.
  • Experience preparing datasets for publication, sharing, or external collaboration in compliance with data governance standards.
  • Experience with written and verbal communication, including translating complex data findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts data analysis using established tools and techniques to extract insights from healthcare and public health datasets
  • Creates clear and effective data visualizations, such as charts and graphs, to communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Ensures data accuracy and reliability by implementing basic quality assurance procedures
  • Develops and produces routine reports and summaries based on public health data for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including healthcare professionals and data experts, to support public health initiatives and projects
  • Maintains documentation of data analysis processes, data sources, and methodologies used for future reference
  • Adheres to data security protocols and assists in safeguarding sensitive healthcare and public health data
  • Stays informed about industry trends and emerging technologies related to public health informatics through continuous learning and training
  • Provides support to more senior analysts on data analysis projects, including data collection, data cleaning, and basic project management tasks
