About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a Public Engagement Specialist to join our team! The Public Engagement Specialist works in close coordination with the Public Engagement Supervisor to implement the annual company-wide outreach strategy. Responsible for managing H2O to go and Indy H2O programs. The successful candidate is responsible for implementing company education program. They additionally conduct outreach for Tier 2 and Tier 3 projects as defined by the annual outreach strategy. The successful candidate also assists in the implementation of outreach associated with Tier 1 projects. Furthermore, they ensure that outreach communications are delivered via multiple channels including direct mailers, public meetings, social media posts, websites, emails, and news outlets. The successful candidate also maintains outreach records and regularly reports to departmental and company leadership on outreach performance. Finally, they assist with Neighborhood Ambassador Program (NAP) and actively participate in civic and philanthropic communities throughout the service territory. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in communications, public relations, public and environmental affairs or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 1-2 years of project management experience.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Indiana issued driver's license.
  • Able to write effectively for a variety of mediums and meet often tight deadlines.
  • Able to stage public outreach meetings that are held after regular business hours.
  • Effective public meeting presentation skills.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to interact effectively with all levels of the company and the full range of community stakeholders.
  • Able to bend, lift, and carry up to 30 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2-3 years experience with public relations, project management, and/or community outreach.
  • Knowledge of utility industry.
  • Experience in public infrastructure sector.
  • Proficiency with technology including MS Teams, PowerPoint, content management websites, general A/V equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the research, planning and execution of public outreach events related to capital projects for Citizens.
  • Assist with resolving public outreach conflicts related to capital project implementation.
  • Coordinate strategic STEM education programs aligned with business goals, building partnerships, managing volunteer engagement, tracking participation metrics, and overseeing water, wastewater, and Earth Day outreach budgets and reporting.
  • Serve as a Neighborhood Ambassador of the Neighborhood Ambassador Program (NAP) for a specific geographic area in Indianapolis.
  • Stage public outreach meetings that are held after regular business hours.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
