The Public Engagement Manager (PEM) reports directly to the Chief of Staff of Rock Region Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO). This is a full-time, exempt position. The PEM is responsible for planning, developing, and organizing community outreach and internal and external communications. The PEM will connect potential supporters, stakeholders, and the public in meaningful and impactful ways. Additionally, the PEM will provide administrative support to the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public administration, or a related field, and/or 5 years of direct experience.
  • Ability to effectively, clearly, and professionally communicate and represent METRO in all written and verbal interactions with multiple stakeholders and to groups of all sizes, including employees, press, elected officials, and members of the general public.
  • Ability to prioritize work and problem solve to accomplish competing objectives while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft operating programs specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to understand and comply with METRO’s standards, safety rules, and personnel policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public administration, or a related field, and 10 years of related experience.
  • Experience with public sector agencies or transit agencies.
  • Crisis communication and public information experience.
  • Ability to perform administrative responsibilities for a board of directors and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive public engagement strategy.
  • Manage outreach and public relations activities of METRO.
  • Provides communication support to the Marketing and Communications Manager for social media and newsletters.
  • Lead speechwriter for CEO and COS.
  • Prepare board packets, meetings, and other support for the METRO Board of Directors.
  • Serves as backup for suspensions appeals.
  • Serves as technical writer for policies, grants, press releases, and other correspondence.
  • Monitors community events in which METRO could partner.
  • Promote community engagement within the METRO’s footprint.
  • Track and report community engagement metrics.
  • Advises leadership concerning public perception and messaging risks.
  • Perform other duties as required.
