About The Position

This posting is for a part time Intern (Summer 2026) with the Public Affairs Office at the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG), which is a division of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS). This internship is expected to start on May 18, 2026 and continue through July 24, 2026. The work schedule is part-time (up to 30 hours per week), Monday -Friday. The rate of pay is $18.00 per hour. A college transcript is required to determine eligibility. Please attach your unofficial college transcript(s). Please Note: The selected intern will be required to provide a letter of recommendation from a professional reference or academic advisor/professor before being hired. Interns will be hired through Temporary Solutions which operates as the State’s temporary employment agency. As a temporary position there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in college or a recent college graduate.
  • NOTE: "Recent" graduates are those who have graduated withing the last 6 months.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English or a related field.
  • Recent graduates with a degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English or a related field will also be considered.
  • Students are expected to possess strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as skills using Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and/or Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and writing stories highlighting NCNG soldiers and airmen
  • Gathering good news stories across the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) in both visual and written form
  • Producing products to be used on NCNG social media sites
  • Working closely with social media manager to improve data mining process
  • Work closely with the NCNG Public Affairs Office (PAO) administrative assistant to improve daily task tracker
  • Work with the NCNG Visual Information Office on gathering and recording product to include photos and video for short and long range video production products
  • Work with the media manager to improve media relations between NCNG and different NC media outlets
  • Work with the Community Relations Officer to assist with two public relations events
