About The Position

WGL – Public Affairs Coordinator (DC) Are you passionate about shaping policy and building strong community relationships? This is a new position designed to strengthen our engagement with local governments, counties, and municipalities—an area critical to our policy, legislative, permitting, and community-based initiatives. You will manage a defined local-government portfolio, building and sustaining relationships with elected officials, staff, and community stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Public Affairs Lead for D.C. , you will provide essential support to proactively monitor local issues, elevate concerns early, and align local activities with broader state-level strategies.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years in public affairs, government relations, community engagement, or a related field; experience with local or federal government processes is highly valued
  • Understanding of legislative processes at federal, state, and local levels
  • Strong relationship-building and coalition-building abilities; excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and related tools
  • Hands-on, proactive, and adaptable with a strong ability to learn and grow in a dynamic environment
  • Passion for engagement and the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local elected officials, staff, and community stakeholders to support public affairs objectives
  • Stay ahead of local issues by monitoring council and committee activity, hearings, and legislation, flagging and escalating emerging risks and opportunities to Public Affairs leadership as needed
  • Assist in developing positions on key issues, drafting memos, and preparing summaries and foundational analysis to inform state-level strategies
  • Organize meetings, events, and community engagements, including scheduling, materials preparation, and follow-up documentation
  • Keep detailed records, contact lists, and issue trackers to ensure proactive management of local public affairs activities

Benefits

  • We offer a competitive salary range of $95,400 to $138,075 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills.
