About The Position

The PT Specialist- Bookstore is primarily responsible in providing exceptional customer service while presenting a positive image of Illinois Central College through an upbeat attitude, eagerness to assist all who visit the Bookstore, and greet and serve all with a smile; communicate bookstore policies and procedures to potential and current ICC students in person, via telephone and email correspondence; operation of cash register, department charges, student accounts and third-party agencies; provide customer service by answering questions, and helping customer find products and directing them to the merchandise they are looking for; handle all merchandise returns and exchanges; handle rental returns throughout the semester and rental damages during buyback; activation of general gift cards for resale; operate ID machine; provide assistance as needed during bookstore rushes, buyback and year-end inventory; and perform related duties as related duties as required. Compensation for the PT Specialist- Bookstore Customer Service is $16.24 - $18.67. Hours: Must be able to work on either the East Peoria or Peoria Campus as assigned. Typical schedule will be 23-29 hours a week but would be more during beginning and ending of semester. East Peoria Campus Bookstore hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Peoria Campus Bookstore hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Later hours (5:00 p.m.) and two Saturdays (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) may be required during rush months in January and August.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months or more of direct Customer Service and/or running a cash register.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in business or related field.
  • One year of experience working in retail.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Perform customer service, operating cash registers, processing purchases/returns, receiving returned books, assisting in book buy back, and answering phone calls and emails.
  • Support the overall bookstore operations including open and close store, assist in merchandising, stocking, receiving shipments, and maintaining stockroom and bookstore areas.
  • Assist in administrative tasks such as maintaining records and inventories.
  • Train and support other assistants and student employees.
  • Perform related duties as required.
