About The Position

Dauphin County Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for the Part Time Fort Hunter Head Docent position. The objective of the employee in this position is to assist in administering the daily operation of Fort Hunter Mansion; provide security for the collections and acting as public liaison to Mansion and Fort Hunter Park users. The employee in this position is responsible for the following essential functions:

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program.
  • Previous work experience required, such as office work, customer service or cashier experience.
  • Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential functions of job.
  • Must possess excellent communications and interpretive skills.
  • Must possess initiative and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with coworkers, staff and volunteers.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and a willingness to travel, as needed, to carry out essential job duties.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess or be willing to acquire knowledge of Fort Hunter buildings and land, configurations, spaces and history.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain required records.
  • Must possess the ability to responsibly handle sums of cash and checks.
  • Must possess the ability to operate the Museum Shop and Admissions POS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily routine functions of making the museum available to the public for guided tours and oversees the day-to-day activities of docents in the absence of the Mansion Manager.
  • Provides a security presence for safety of collections.
  • Performs daily accounting of admissions and shop sales in absence of the Mansion Manager.
  • Collects admission and shop sales from visitors using an electronic POS system.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the Mansion gardens.
  • Performs routine cleaning and ordering of Mansion spaces.
  • Performs the duties of docent, including teaching the school program.
  • Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Assists with special events as required.
  • Attends meetings or trainings as required.
  • Operates park equipment as needed to perform job duties.
  • Is assigned additional duties as required by the Mansion Manager, Park Manager, or History Educator
