About The Position

Summary The individual who serves as the Coordinator of the Fire Science Program will perform administrative responsibilities to ensure Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) standards align within all assigned academic programming, instruction, hands on experiences, and certification activities. This academic leader will be accountable for providing direction for the faculty teaching team, while encouraging a collective approach in fulfillment of program goals, attainment of student learning outcomes, evaluation of program outcomes, and assurance of continuous curricular quality improvement to maintain established and future FESHE standards. These responsibilities require leadership in both teaching and learning and program management and include directing and collaborating with faculty in academic planning, guiding program organization, managing budget, coordinating staffing, as well as advising, supporting, and motivating students. This leader will support innovation, demonstrate exceptional teaching skills in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, and display enthusiasm while assessing and addressing diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff associated with the program. The Fire Science Program promotes contemporary teaching, quality scholarship, equity, and strives for academic success for students. Compensation for the PT Coordinator- Fire Science Program is $21.75 - $25.02 an hour. Ensure the highest possible State and National standards are adhered to for program instruction. Manage the completion and submission of required schedules, reports, and maintenance of records to provide evidence that program meets or exceeds standards. Lead faculty in curriculum development and instructional advancement. Coordinate course schedule/calendar to facilitate alignment of learning activities to facilitate students’ achievement of course learning outcomes. Provide direct oversight to maintain currency of program curriculum, course syllabi, support materials, instructional resources, facilities, equipment, textbook adoptions, program policies, handbook, and class, lab, clinical, and field internships. Facilitate assessment of course and program outcomes to enhance teaching and learning. Conduct regular program faculty meetings and advisory meetings. Recommend adjunct faculty for hire and teaching assignments and arrange for substitute faculty. Actively participate in student advisement, admission, and orientation activities. Support student recruitment by promoting and publicizing the program through personal contact, College promotional activities, and other acceptable modes. Serve as program and institutional representative by establishing and maintaining working relationships with clinical agencies, community and professional organizations as well as attending professional meetings and/or conferences. Encourage faculty to participate in professional development to remain current with education, workforce trends, and emerging technology. Enhance personal and professional skills through professional development, continuing education, and scholarly activities appropriate to higher education and profession. Actively support college wide initiatives and serve on college, department, and program committees. Perform assigned responsibilities during the day, evening and/or weekend on any Campus, or affiliated clinical agency, and other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Fire Science.
  • Fire Science Instructor certification.
  • Three (3) years of fire service experience.
  • Teaching experience or experience as a fire service training coordinator or coordinator of a fire service education program.
  • Administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional leadership skills.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in emergency services, education, or health related disciplines.
  • More than three (3) years of experience working in Fire Science.
  • Administrative experience in EMS, Fire Science, or academia.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • Experience in program or project management.
  • Experience leading teaching or training.
  • Ability to serve a diverse population.
